Robert Hight in the Auto Club of Sourthern California Chevrolet for John Force Racing took the number two spot in qualifying for Sunday’s elimination in Englishtown.
Hight said his most impressive run of the weekend so far came on Saturday where he blasted down the right lane of the track making a pass at 3.928s at a speed of 322.11MPH. Hight suffered a slight clutch problem but felt that had it not happened he could have been even faster.
Speaking following his run, Hight commented by saying:
We were trying to better that – should have bettered that, but the clutch didn’t work like it was supposed to. “Good news is that it’s going down the track. We’ve made four good runs at this point, and we’ve got to make four more tomorrow, and will take it one at a time.
Hight will go up again JR Todd. Hight is looking for his maiden win of the season and he went on to say:
We gained points in all but one run and went down the track on every single run. “Tomorrow is a new day, with a lot of tough cars. Anytime you race a Kalitta car in the first round, that’s a tough matchup. You don’t expect to qualify No. 2 and get one of those guys. We have a good set up. The first round is liable to be as hot as it was today. We’ve got to race the race track, not our opponents. I’m proud of my guys – to make four runs like that is pretty impressive.
