American JR Hildebrand is set to be named as Josef Newgarden’ replacement in the No.21 Fuzzy’s Vodka Chevrolet for Ed Carpenter Racing.
Newgarden has joined Team Penske, replacing Juan Pablo Montoya alongside series champion Simon Pagenaud, Will Power and Helio Castroneves. Montoya will take part in the Indianapolis 500 which takes place at the end of May.
Hildebrand drove in the 100th running of the Indianapolis 500 presented by PennGrade Motor Oil. Newgarden’s ECR engineer Jeremy Milless has left the team to join Andretti Autosport.
At the 100th running of the Indianapolis 500 presented by PennGrade Motor Oil in May Hildebrand started the race in 15th place in sixth place in the No.6 Preferred Freezer/Fuzzy’s Chevrolet.
Ed Carpenter Racing will confirm their line-up for 2017 on Friday. Ed Carpenter is expected to return to the No.20 Chevrolet part time for the six oval races next season but it not yet clear who will partner him. Spencer Pigot could be in the frame to continue in the No.20.
