Canadian James Hinchcliffe has a great opportunity ahead of him in 2020. The Oakville native may be running a partial NTT IndyCar Series schedule this season but it provides him with the perfect platform to show teams what he can do in order to return to the series full time in 2021.
The Mayor of HinchTown secured a sponsor this week with cloud based IT solutions company Genesys joining him for the month of May meaning we will see Hinch at the GMR Grand Prix of Indianapolis and the 104th running of the Indianapolis 500 presented by Gainbridge.
The Oakville native is also aiming to compete in his home race, the Honda Indy Toronto and other events during the season ah he and his team look to secure further funding.
A number of drivers within the Honda powered teams are out of contract at the end of the season which gives Hinch an opportunity to show team owners what he can do. The Mayor has already confirmed that he will not be on the grid for the season opening Firestone Grand Prix of St Petersburg however Paddock Eye understands that an announcement as to which team he will race for this season is imminent.
The NTT IndyCar Series teams and drivers will take part in a two day Spring training test at the Circuit of the Americas in Austin Texas next month and our understanding is that Hinchcliffe and his team are aiming to have an announcement made by this time as to who he will race with as it would enable him to test with the new aeroscreen.
