Former Andretti Autosport driver James Hinchcliffe could be in line to return to the team in the NTT IndyCar Series this season.
Following the news on Sunday that Honda have blocked Fernandi Alonso’s return to the Indianapolis 500 with Michael Andretti’s team given the Spaniard’s continued relationship with Toyota Gazoo Racing it provides the perfect opportunity for James Hinchcliffe to step into the seat.
Paddock Eye understands that Honda Performance Development are keen to get the Mayor of HinchTown in a seat for the month of May at least however the deal that the Canadian struck with his new sponsor Genesys is for multiple races so it is highly probable that we will see Hinch racing at home in Tororonto given he said recently that he will be helping race organizers Green Savoree Promotions to promote the race so it is only fitting that he would be in the race.
Things have happened so quickly in the NTT IndyCar Series off season that it has been extremely busy and the news relating to Alonso is just another element to the drama that is the wonderful racing series.
The Mayor of HinchTown knows Andretti Autosport extremely well having spent three seasons with the team from 2012 to 2014 before moving to Schmidt Peterson Motorsports. Paddock Eye understands that Hinch comes with an engine lease from Honda having brought tha with him after Arrow McLaren SP moved from Honda to Chevrolet power.
NTT IndyCar Series Spring Trqining camp at the Circuit of the Americas is less than three weeks away which still allows plenty of time for deal between Hinch and Andretti to be announced and finalised and a car to be prepared so that the Canadia n can participate in the test.
The NTT IndyCar Series announced a few weeks ago that the two day spring training test which takes place on Tuesday 11 and Wednesday 12 February.
