Schmidt Peterson Motorsports James Hinchcliffe the home town favourite had a great qualifying for the Honda Indy Toronto on Saturday. The Oakville native will start today’s race from sixth place on the grid which is his best qualifying result on the streets of Toronto.
The Mayor of HinchTown’s previous best qualifying result came in 2014 in race one with Andretti Autosport.
Hinchcliffe heads into Sunday’s race in 13th place in the series standings on 264 points just 11 points behind tenth place driver Charlie Kimball in the No.83 NovoNordisk Chevrolet. The Schmidt Peterson Motorsports driver goes into the Toronto race following a top ten finish last time out in Iowa where he came through the field from the back to finish the race in ninth place.
Speaking following qualifying he commented by saying:
I’m really pleased with the result today. We got back into the Fast Six after two weeks of shot-gunning the field. It’s kind of nice to be back at the sharp end of the grid. The Arrow Electronics guys did a great job. It’s such a tough track out here with the conditions, the surface changes, the bumps obviously, but they did what they had to do and gave me a car that could get up there. I’m proud of all of them and hopefully the best starting spot I’ve ever had here turns into the best finish I’ve ever had here.
