James Hinchliffe has emerged as the favourite to replace Zach Veach in the No.26 Gainbridge Honda for Andretti Autosport who it was confirmed on Wednesday that he has left the team with immediate effect.
The news means that Andretti Andretti have a vacancy for the final three races of the 2020 NTT IndyCar Series season with the doubleheader Harvest Grand Prix presented by GMR at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course next weekend and the Firestone Grand Prix of St Petersburg.
The Mayor of HinchTown completed a partial IndyCar Series schedule with Andretti Autosport in the No.29 Genesys Honda finished in seventh place in the 104th running of the Indianapolis 500 presented by Gainbridge on August 23rd.
Andretti Autosport have confirmed that they will announce Zach Veach’s replacement in the coming days.
Hinchcliffe has served as an analyst for NBC Sports IndyCar broadcast team working as a pit-lane reporter after losing his drive at Arrow McLaren SP ahead of the start of the 2020 NTT IndyCar Series season.
The Mayor of HinchTown has experience with the Aeroscreen, he knows the team, has had success on the Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course and took victory in St Petersburg having won here in 2013, his first IndyCar career win.
Speaking to Paddock Eye ahead of the Indianapolis 500 last month, team owner Michael Andretti confirmed his team were trying to help the Mayor of HinchTown return to full-time NTT IndyCar Series competition in 2021.
