History will be made in Saudi Arabia this weekend when the 2019/20 FIA ABB Formula E season gets underway.
It will be the first time in Saudi Arabian history that women will race against men with Britain’s Katherine Legge competing in the Jaguar I-Pace eTrophy, the official support category for the ABB FIA Formula E Championship.
Legge is joined on the grid of eleven cars by Celia Martin while former GP3 driver Alice Powell will be the VIP driver. Speaking about the news, Powell said:
I am very excited to have been given this opportunity by Jaguar to race in their VIP car in the all new Jaguar I-PACE eTROPHY.
“Electric is the way the world is going, so to have the chance to drive in this series, in the early stages of this new era, is fantastic. It’s been three years since my last race, so I cannot wait to get back out there and would like to thank Jaguar for this opportunity.
Following the ABB FIA Formula E race on Sunday, several teams will run female drivers at a test.
The Ad Diriyah EPrix takes place this weekend from December 15 and is live across the BBC.
