The Verizon IndyCar Series are in Canada this weekend for today’s Honda Indy Toronto at Exhibition Place.
When we think of Canada and Toronto, we think of the home of maple syrup, the Toronto Blue Jays, Tim Hortons and poutine…Oh and of the Mayor of HinchTown, James Hinchcliffe who is from Oakville, Ontario.
In 2016. Hinchcliffe secured a podium finish when he came home on the podium in third place behind race winner Will Power and Helio Castroneves giving Team Penske 1-2. Hinch starts the race from sixth place having made it into the Firestone Fast 6 on Saturday and goes into the race having finished on the podium in race 1 at Chevrolet Duel in Detroit last month in third place.
Hinch heads into today’s race in 12th place in the points standings and is hoping to put on a strong showing in front of his home crowd.
The track surface in Toronto is extremely bumpy and this could play a key part in the outcome of the race. The other key factor is that it is possible that there will be rain during the race which means we will see the grey walled Firestone rain tires.
Schmidt Peterson Motorsports have Sebastian Saavedra in the No.7 Lucas Oil Honda this weekend and Hinch has been working with the Colombian to help him get up to speed with the Honda power unit, with a strong strategy Hinch should be in good shape for a great result at home in Toronto.
