Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing’s Graham Rahal returns home this weekend for the Honda Indy 200 at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course, round 13 of the 2017 Verizon IndyCar Series season.
Rahal goes into the race in sixth place in the series championship on 359 points equal with Team Penske’s Will Power.
How is Rahal feeling heading home to Mid-Ohio?
“It’s always great to go back to Mid-Ohio. I have a lot of fond memories, and have had a lot of great days there. Obviously winning there in 2015 really highlighted my career thus far. I’m excited to get back and hopefully see a great crowd once again. I know we will have a lot of support and I’m very appreciative of that. Hopefully we can have a great run in the Steak ‘n Shake Honda because we definitely need it at this point in the championship.
Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing have worked extremely hard to improve their road course set-up for the three remaining road course races of the season, in Mid-Ohio, Watkins Glen and the double points series finale GoPro Grand Prix of Sonoma.
Rahal has high hopes for this weekend’s race, saying:
My hopes and expectations are high. “We have struggled with our road course setup this year but at the same time I think we are capable of overcoming that. Our guys have put a lot of effort, a lot of time and mental energy into figuring out what we need going forward.
Last time out at the Honda Indy Toronto, Rahal started the race from the front row in second place while he finished the race in ninth place. Rahal is now just 64 points behind championship leader Scott Dixon with just five races remaining.
Speaking about the points situation, Rahal commented by saying:
It’s important to have a good result at Mid-Ohio. I’m frustrated after Toronto. We deserved better than that. Our car was better than that, our team was better than that so it was obviously disappointing to get the result that we did. Hopefully we can turn that around and have a really, really strong run at Mid-Ohio.
Rahal qualified on the front row last time out in Toronto and as a result he will have an advantageous position on pit-road this weekend in Mid-Ohio. Speaking about this position, Rahal stated:
Our pit position in Mid-Ohio, based on qualifying second in Toronto, is going to be great. It’s flat so that is going to help us a lot. Obviously you want to be pitted with the good guys. You want to be right down there where the fast guys and championship contenders are and we’re right there with them.
For campers this weekend there will be a decorating competition dubbed ‘May The G-Force Be With You’ which has been organised by Honda, a competition that will be judged by Graham Rahal, and speaking about the event, Rahal stated:
It’s just fun to go out and be with the fans. You see stuff that is all over the board and everyone looks like they are having a great time. It’s always a blast to go out to the campsites and spend some time with the fans.
