The Honda powered team’s in the Verizon IndyCar Series spoiled Chevrolet’s ‘Penske Party’ in qualifying for Sunday’s Honda Indy Toronto.
On Saturday morning in the final practice before qualifying, Penske secured a 1,2,3,4 sweep however when it came to qualifying the Honda powered No.15 Rousseau Metals Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing car of Graham Rahal managed to put his car on the front row alongside pole sitter Simon Pagenaud.
Chip Ganassi Racing’s Verizon IndyCar Series points leader Scott Dixon in the No.9 Honda will start the race from fifth place just ahead of the home town favourite, James Hinchcliffe in the No.5 Arrow Electronics Honda. The Mayor of HinchTown starts the race from sixth place.
Six of the cars in the top ten for tomorrow’s race are Honda powered cars with Rahal starting second, Dixon in fifth, Hinch sixth, Alexander Rossi in eighth, Max Chilton in ninth and Takuma Sato in 10th.
There are also four Honda powered teams in the top ten with Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing, Chip Ganassi Racing, Schmidt Peterson Motorsports and Andretti Autosport all getting cars into the top ten. It will be interesting with the prospect of rain what Sunday’s 85 lap race will bring.
