A visibly annoyed Christian Horner has insisted to Sky Sports F1 that Carlos Sainz will be a Toro Rosso driver in 2018.
The Red Bull Racing team principal reacted angrily to hearing that Sainz had been quoted earlier this week as saying that he is unlikely to be at Toro Rosso next season.
However speaking following the opening practice session for this weekend’s Austrian Grand Prix Horner hit back saying that Sainz would not be in Formula One if it was for Red Bull backing him.
When Sky’s Simon Lazenby suggested loaning Sainz out to Renault for 2018 Horner said why would Red Bull do that when Toro Rosso are ahead of the Enstone outfit in the championship.
Horner also confirmed that not only will Sainz be with the team in 2018 but they have an option on him for 2019.
The Red Bull boss also confirmed that both Daniel Ricciardo and Max Verstappen have contracts in place with the Milton Keynes based outfit for next season.
