Ryan Hunter-Reay says that he was happy to be working with a small team again following his test with Ed Carpenter Racing at Barber Motorsports Park on Monday as the Floridian evaluated the No.20 Sonax Chevrolet for the team as they weigh up their options as to who will partner Rinus VeeKay and team owner Ed Carpenter for the 2022 NTT IndyCar Series season.
Conor Daly has yet to be confirmed at the team for next season having shared the No.20 Chevrolet with Ed Carpenter on road and street course events while he raced on ovals for Carlin Racing however, with the future of the Carlin entry up in the air beyond this season it is unclear as to what Conor Daly’s plans might consist of for the 2022 season. Hunter-Reay, who spent many years with Andretti Autosport was happy to get reacquainted with the team at Ed Carpenter Racing having tested for them at Sonoma Raceway in 2013 after being loaned out by the then Chevrolet-powered Andretti Autosport team.
As for what the future may have in store for RHR? The 2014 Indianapolis 500 winner was just happy to be in the car and was joined at the test by former Formula One driver, Nico Hulkenberg who was making his NTT IndyCar Series debut with Arrow McLaren SP.
