Hyundai drivers Dani Sordo, Thierry Neuville and Hayden Paddon have completed over 6,000KM in the new I20 Coupe WRC car ahead of the start of the 2017 World Rally Championship season.
The new car will make its race debut at the Monte Carlo Rally later this month. It is Hyundai’s third new car in four seasons.
Hyundai have elected to combine their two teams from the last three seasons and will compete with three I20’s as Hyundai Shell Mobis World Rally Team. Speaking at the launch of their new car last month, Hyundai Motorsport President G.H Choi commented by saying:
It has been busy but finally our new baby is born. We aim to win the championship with our strong team and top level drivers and co-drivers.
Michel Nandan, Team Principal of the Hyundai Shell Mobis World Rally Team commented by saying:
Despite the new regulations we have been able to carry over a lot of what we learned with the 2016 car. The new regulations have impacted a number of areas but it was important to start from a strong base, it’s an opportunity to put into practice everything we have learned and experienced in the past three seasons. Having finished in second position in 2016 we want to demonstrate our ability to fight for the championship in 2017.
