Chip Ganassi Racing’s Marcus Ericsson in the No.8 Huski Chocolate Honda says that he is confident that he can compete with the best drivers in the NTT IndyCar Series as he ended the Honda Indy 200 presented by HPD Ridgeline on the podium in second place just behind race winner Josef Newgarden.

The Swede started the race from third place on the grid and closed the gap to Josef Newgarden fighting right up until the end of the race just missing our on taking his second victory of the season.

Ericsson took his maiden NTT IndyCar Series victory last month in Detroit and speaking to Paddock Eye following his podium, Ericsson said:

My first win in Detroit a couple weeks back, it was good for me to get my first win in INDYCAR. Since then, I felt really strong. Detroit we had an issue with qualifying. Then Road America, one of the fastest cars in the race. Really good weekend. To finish on the podium today, yeah, it’s definitely good momentum, good for the confidence (indiscernible). I think it showed today that I can really race with the best in the series.

The Swede went on to say:

We had a great day. “I’m really proud of the whole team. We were pushing very, very hard there at the end to catch Josef. A couple of more laps, and we could have challenged for it. But overall, P2 was a very good result today.”

Marcus Ericsson has moved into fifth place in the championship on 280 points and with six races remaining is still in the running to win the championship as he is just 104 points behind his teammate and championship leader Alex Palou.
