French driver Tristan Vautier says that he is very happy to be back in the NTT INDYCAR SERIES for the first time in eight years with Dale Coyne Racing this weekend in Detroit.
I’m very happy to be back in the NTT INDYCAR SERIES this weekend with Dale Coyne Racing. Obviously, we’re looking for a bit more performance. We didn’t have what it takes to advance to the next round. It’s been eight years since I’ve been in and Indy car on a road or street course and it’s good to be back. There’s a lot to catch up on but we’re gaining ground with every session. We’re getting closer and tomorrow is a long race and a lot can happen. We’ll keep working at it and hopefully we can try to put out a good result tomorrow.”
Vautier managed to out-qualify his teammate Jack Harvey. The Frenchman starts the race from 24th place.
Jack Harvey in the No.18 INVST Honda starts the race from 26th and speaking following the action he said:
Detroit is not cooperating with us unfortunately. To be honest, I was kind of nervous about this weekend, our street circuit car has needed some work. I do believe we have some new dampers coming but we didn’t get them in time for this weekend and I think it’s showing, ultimately. We tried a lot of different set ups on the #18 INVST Honda and unfortunately none of it has put us in a better window. Although we’re going quicker, so is everyone else. Everyone knows Dale is the strategy man, so hopefully he comes up with a great strategy for us tomorrow because I think that’s going to be how we take a big swing at getting a bit further up the field here in Detroit. It was a disappointing day for sure, but we’ll see what tomorrow brings.”
