The Indianapolis Motor Speedway announced on Wednesday ahead of the Harvest GP double-header NTT IndyCar Series event this weekend that the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series and NTT IndyCar Series will come together in 2021 to host a doubleheader weekend.

The news comes after the Indianapolis Motor Speedway hosted a triple-header due to the COVID 19 global pandemic in July with the GMR Grand Prix of Indianapolis, the Pennzoil 150 NASCAR Xfinity Series race and the Big Machine Hand Sanitizer 400.

The NTT IndyCar Series will run on the road course on Saturday August 14th while the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series will run on the road course on Sunday 15th August 2021.

For the NTT IndyCar Series it will be their third visit to the Brickyard in 2021 following the GMR Grand Prix of Indianapolis and the 105th running of the Indianapolis 500 presented by Gainbridge in May.

Speaking about the announcement, President of the Indianapolis Motor Speedwa, J Douglas Boles said:

“Our first NASCAR-INDYCAR weekend was a big success last July, with positive feedback from our loyal fans who watched the races on NBC and from the drivers, teams and participants involved. “The Xfinity Series’ debut on the IMS road course provided exactly the kind of thrilling action from the green to checkered flags that we anticipated, so we know the teams and drivers of the Cup Series will put on a great show as they turn left and right for the first time at IMS. “We can’t wait to welcome back fans to see NASCAR and INDYCAR together during this exciting weekend as we add another memorable chapter in the long, storied history of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
