Seven-time NASCAR Cup Series champion turned team owner Jimmie Johnson, who this weekend will compete in the Brickyard 400 in the No.84 Carvana Legacy Motor Club Toyota Camry XSE, says that the Indianapolis Motor Speedway is a special place for him, not only from his NASCAR Cup Series career but also from his time in the NTT INDYCAR SERIES with Chip Ganassi Racing. The Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course was the first time Johnson tested an INDYCAR.
Speaking ahead of this weekend’s Brickyard 400, a race that he has won the event four times, in 2006, back to back in 2008 and 2009, respectively, and again in 2012.
Johnson will have a very familiar voice in his ear this weekend. His dad Gary will be a spotter for the seven-time Cup series champion alongside Johnson’s long-standing spotter Earl Barban.
Gary also spotted for Jimmie at the Greatest Spectacle In Racing in 2022. Speaking ahead of this weekend’s race at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, Jimmie Johnson said:
“Indianapolis is a special place both for my time in the NASCAR Cup Series and for my time in INDYCAR. The place is sacred, and I can’t help but smile when I look back on all the experiences I have had over my entire career at this track. With no one racing this car on this configuration, it’s going to level up the playing field slightly. I’m excited to get back behind the wheel and see what we can do this weekend. I’m also thankful to Carvana for allowing my girls to design this very special paint scheme, it’s going to be awesome to see it in real life and on the track.”
