The Verizon IndyCar Series heads to Gateway Motorsports Park this weekend for the Bommarito Automotive Group 500 however, racing is the last thing on everyone’s mind following Robert Wickens’ crash at Pocono Raceway during last weekend’s ABC Supply 500.
The drivers have expressed their support for Wickens and his family through social media and the series have been providing updates on the Canadian’s condition. Wickens underwent successful spinal surgery on Monday.
Paddock Eye spoke to defending series champion Josef Newgarden earlier this week and he said during the call that he has found it difficult to sleep with what happened to Wickens.
Sebastien Bourdais said in his pre race notes that they are not thinking about racing, that their thoughts and prayers are with Wickens and that it is not going to be same without the Canadian on the grid.
Schmidt Peterson Motorsports who will run just one car this weekend with James Hinchcliffe in the No.5 Arrow Electronics Honda. There are stickers available for the fans fans to purchase in support of Robbie Wickens.
