McLaren Chief Executive Officer Zak Brown has confirmed that the decision to announce their Indianapolis 500 plans for next season now was done to give the organisation sufficient time to get the resources ready for May.
Brown has confirmed that the McLaren Racing IndyCar team will be a completely separate entity to the Formula One operation and will not impact their Formula One programme.
The team will be built around existing relationships the company have with IndyCar.
Brown has also confirmed that the Indianapolis 500 could be a precursor to the organisation to go full-time in the series in 2020 as they will have the personnel and equipment in place.
It is not yet known what engine supplier the team will go with however reports suggest that Chevrolet are the preferred choice.
