McLaren CEO Zak Brown says that the company are extremely close making a decision on whether or not to enter the Verizon IndyCar Series full-time in 2019 and that this decision is not dependent on Fernando Alonso joining the series.
Brown has also revealed that McLaren’s commercial partners are looking to expand their reach in the US market and the Verizon IndyCar Series would provide the necessary exposure that they are looking for.
Speaking to the IndyStar, Brown said that the US is a big market for McLaren’s car brand, McLaren Automotive.
Brown said that the company’s partners are extremely keen for them to go racing in the Verizon IndyCar Series. At the 2017 Indianapolis 500, McLaren ran with their Formula One partners on Fernando Alonso’s No.29 McLaren/Andretti Honda.
