The Verizon IndyCar Series are set to test the F1 style cockpit screen over the winter as the series explores ways of improving cock-pit safety in the sport.
Formula One have introduced the halo device for next season however the Verizon IndyCar Series feel that for them more tests are needed with the shield set to be tested following the conclusion of the 2017 Verizon IndyCar Series season.
The series have been in consultation with the US military about the screens used for fighter jets.
The Verizon IndyCar Series have been working with surgeon Dr Timothy Pohlman and series medical consultant Dr Terry Trammell about the best way forward when it comes to driver head protection.
Tests are expected to take place with a shield device towards the end of the year with a device being introduced ahead of the 2019 Verizon IndyCar Series season.
