The Verizon IndyCar Series teams are in Detroit this weekend for the Chevrolet Dual in Detroit presented by Lear at Belle Isle Raceway.
Following an extremely busy and intense month of May at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway which ended in a dramatic battle between Team Penske’s Helio Castroneves and Andretti Autosport’s Takuma Sato which saw Sato win his first 500, the teams and drivers have to adapt quickly to a street circuit layout having spent the last month at the Speedway.
Last year, Sebastien Bourdais took victory in race 1 while in the second race Team Penske’s Will Power took victory.
In the opening six races of the season, there have been six different winners from four different teams, with Dale Coyne Racing, Schmidt Peterson Motorsports, Team Penske and Andretti Autosport all having won races this season.
At the last street circuit event in Long Beach it was Honda who took the honors with James Hinchcliffe winning for Schmidt Peterson Motorsports while in the opening race of the season, the Firestone Grand Prix of St Petersburg, a street circuit it was the Honda powered Dale Coyne Racing team with Sebastien Bourdais having claimed victory.
Chevrolet will be hoping for a strong weekend in their back yard, with the Chevrolet tower in Down town overlooking the circuit dominating the Detroit skyline.
It will be interesting to see how quickly Esteban Gutierrez gets up to speed in the No.18 Unifin Honda.
