Seven time NASCAR Cup Series champion Jimmie Johnson says that the NTT IndyCar Series is still on his bucket list as he prepares to take part in tonight’s NTT IndyCar Series iRacing Challenge on the Watkins Glen International Circuit.

Johnson will race in the No.48 Ally Racing Jimmie Johnson Racing Chevrolet.

Johnson has plenty of previous experience at Watkins Glen International with 18 previous starts here in the NASCAR Cup Series.

Speaking to NBC Sports Leigh Diffey on Friday, Johnson said that he would be interested in doing the NTT IndyCar Series/NASCAR Xfinity Series double header at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway on July 4/5.

Speaking to Diffey, Johnson said:

I think that would be an awesome opportunity. “Clearly a lot of things to sort out, and I haven’t even asked permission yet to pull it off. But I love the idea and am so thankful Graham (Rahal) brought it up because I would have probably missed it and reacted too late.

Earlier this week when the NTT IndyCar Series announced their new schedule for 2020 Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing’s Graham Rahal tweeted Johnson saying:

The GMR Grand Prix of Indianapolis takes place on Saturday July 4 while the Big Machine Vodka Brickyard 400 takes place on July 5.

Johnson who is entering his final season in the NASCAR Xfinity Cup Series races for the Chevrolet powered Hendrick Motorsports team which would allow Johnson to transition to a Chevrolet powered outfit.

Johnson has been working with Arrow McLaren SP and recently had a seat fitting with the team.
