Fernando Alonso has revealed that he never intended to compete in the Verizon IndyCar Series in 2019 with McLaren or anyone else.

The Spaniard revealed that McLaren’s decision not to pursue IndyCar came back in August and he just tested the Andretti Autosport Honda in September just to get a feel for the new universal aero kit.

Speaking at the United States Grand Prix at the Circuit Of The Americas in Austin Texas, Alonso said that he was never going to be racing for McLaren full-time in IndyCar in 2019.

McLaren had held talks with Scott Dixon about the possibility of the New Zealander joining the team in IndyCar in 2019 however the Iceman who went on to win his fifth championship decided to extend his stay with Chip Ganassi Racing.
