Roger Penske, owner of the NTT INDYCAR SERIES and the Indianapolis Motor Speedway says that the series will investigate the circumstances of how the tire from Kyle Kirkwood’s Andretti car came off his car and bounced over the catch fencing and hit a parked car.
Speaking following the 107th running of the Indianapolis 500 presented by Gainbridge, Roger Penske said:
I saw what happened, saw it bounced on top of a building and went and hit a car over there, which is obviously very concerning.
Penske watched as his driver Josef Newgarden scored his first Indianapolis 500 win in the No.2 Shell Team Penske Chevrolet.
Penske concluded on the tire situation saying:
We have tethers on the wheels, and it was a rear wheel that came off, and I am sure the guys at INDYCAR will look at it, will determine what really happened.
