The NTT IndyCar Series will introduce a new cooling device called the ‘Air Scoops that will be mounted on top of the Aeroscreen in a bid to increase driving cooling. The device which was tested during practice at Road America last week has been made mandatory this weekend in practice, qualifying and the race in the Iowa 250’s at Iowa Speedway.
Speakers about the device IndyCar President Jay Frye said:
We’ve found that it’s not just the ambient temperature of the cockpit in conjunction to the outside temperature, it’s about air not moving inside of the cockpit. “This actually adds more airflow inside the cockpit.”
The ambient air temperature this weekend is expected to be 100 degrees Fahrenheit.
