Reigning World Rally Champion Sebastien Ogier was delighted to have taken victory in his first event for M-Sports on Sunday.
The rallye Monte Carlo took place this weekend with Ogier taking to the controls of the Ford Fiesta EccoBoost WRC for the opening rally of the 2017 season just a month after signing for the British M-Sports team.
Ogier was joined on the podium by Toyota’s Jari Matti Latvala and his M-Sports team mate Ott Tanak who finished third despite suffering from a broken engine.
Speaking about his victory Ogier commented by saying:
I was hoping to win but to take it from the first rally, after only one month together and with so little preparation, feels really amazing.
Hyundai’s Thierry Neuville had been in control of the rally throughout the weekend however his challenge faded allowing Ogier to navigate through the tricky weather conditions to win the rally, the 39th victory of his career and speaking about the conditions he stated:
The conditions didn’t make our life easy this weekend, starting first in the snow on day one and finishing with more and more snow.
Ogier heads to Rally Sweden next month for round two of the WRC season leading the standings on 25 points.
