Director of Race Tire Engineering and Production with Bridgestone Americas Motorsports Cara Adams says that it is great to see so many female engineers up and down pit-road in the NTT IndyCar Series in 2021 and she is delighted to see that Simona De Silvestro is back in the field for this weekend’s 105th running of the Indianapolis 500 presented by Gainbridge with the female-led Paretta Autosport.
In response to a question from Paddock Eye during a Firestone meet and greet at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway on Tuesday, Adams said that it is great to see the female engineers and mechanics working with Paretta Autosport.
She also made the point that Andretti Autosport has a long-serving female engineer with Amanda Gross who is a development engineer, Adams also mentioned Anna Chatten who is a gearbox engineer with Dreyer and Reinbold Racing who will start the 105th running of the Indianapolis 500 from 31st with Sage Karam.
Chip Ganassi Racing has a number of female engineers with Angela Ashmore serving as assistant engineer on Marcus Ericsson’s No.8 Huski Chocolate Honda who starts the Indy 500 from ninth place on the grid while Danielle Shephard is the Simulation Engineer for Alex Palou’s No.10 NTT DATA Honda who will start the 500 from sixth on the grid.
Cara also commented that at Firestone they have a number of female tire technicians and Meyer Shank Racing’s Helio Castroneves remarked that when he drove for Penske in CART in 1999 he worked with a female engineer and he is also delighted to see more female involvement in the NTT IndyCar Series.
The NTT IndyCar Series is certainly leading the way when it comes to female involvement in top level motorsport.
