Chip Ganassi Racing’s Scott Dixon in the No.9 PNC Bank Honda started Sunday’s Firestone Grand Prix of Monterey at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca from second on the grid and had a mountain to climb in order to claim his sixth NTT IndyCar Series championship.
Sadly for the Iceman, Penske and Josef Newgarden were too strong added to the fact that the No.9 PNC Bank crew had some rotten luck in 2019.
At WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca on Sunday however the Iceman had some great on track battles with Newgarden team mates Will Power and Simon Pagenaud and finished the race on the podium in third place and speaking following the race he said:
“The car was by far better on the red Firestone tires than the black primaries. There was a ton of tire degradation and it kind of threw us for a loop. Great result for PNC Bank, great for Honda winning the manufacturer title and great for Felix for the Rookie title. It was a hard-fought battle with Simon at the end and hope it was a good show as we haven’t been back at Laguna Seca for some time.”
Felix Rosenqvist in the No.10 NTT DATA Honda commented saying:
“Yeah, that’s still the missing part. “I think we had a good chance this weekend, for sure. Yesterday, we were really fast but we had to start from 14th and that’s how it is. At least we made it more exciting with the rookie championship. Colton did an amazing job, his second win this year. I think he’s going to be one to watch next year, so big congrats to him. He did an amazing job this year.
