Toyota Gazoo Racing’s Fernando Alonso said it was a nice debut in the World Endurance Championship. The Spanish double Formula One champion started the race from pole position and led almost every lap with his team mate’s Kazuki Nakajami and Sebastien Buemi who shared the No.8 Toyota during the Six Hour of Spa on Saturday.
Speaking following the race, Alonso commented by saying:
It was a nice debut, definitely. “In the race I think we led basically all the laps. We had three safety cars, so we lost the advantage we had, but we just kept the position until the last lap.
Alonso beat the sister Toyota by 1.4s. The double Formula One world champion will be back in the No.8 Toyota for the LeMans 24 Hours which is the next race on the calendar which takes place on June 16/17.
Alonso will be joined on the grid for the LeMans 34 Hours by his former McLaren team mate Jenson Button who will drive for SMP Racing. Fernando Alonso will be back on track for next weekend’s Spanish Grand Prix, his home event with the McLaren Renault Formula One team.
