Residents of Belle Isle have said that the site is a public park and not a race track. The circuit plays host to the Chevrolet Belle Isle Grand Prix presented by Lear double header this weekend.

Sandra Novacek from the advocacy group said:

“We want to reclaim our public park. It is supposed to be used for public park activities.

The Penske group own the circuit and have confirmed that they will look at other venues to stage the race or leave Detroit altogether.

The city of Windsor, Ontario invested $50,000 in the race but the Penske Group have also invested millions in the local area and each year the race generates millions in revenue
