McLaren Racing CEO Zak Brown says that the team’s turnaround in 2019 is down to the people that work for the Woking based outfit and that they are fully motivated and committed to the the team.
Speaking at Autosport International Show on Saturday, Brown said that he looks to Roger Penske as inspiration as he has used racing to build his business and uses business to build his racing. Brown also said that bringing in Andreas Seidl, Andre Stella and James Key and that it is about putting the right people in the right places to ensure success.
When it comes to Formula One, Andreas Seidl runs the team while on the NTT IndyCar Series side, Gil de Ferran runs that side of the organisation and he says the owners are awesome and gave him free reign.
Brown said in 2017 when he approached Mansour Ojjeh and the McLaren board about competing in the Indianapolis 500 they jumped at the opportunity and although they had a disappointing May at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway last year the fact that they are entering the NTT IndyCar Series reaffirms their commitment to diversifying their racing interests.
In the NNT IndyCar Series, McLaren have done the right thing in that they have joined an existing established team and have brought in veteran engineer Craig Hampson to lead the 3ngineering side of the business while Gil de Ferran who heads up the sporting side will report directly to Zak Brown.
