Today’s the day! The Verizon IndyCar Series will crown their 2017 drivers champion at Sonoma Raceway with the GoPro Grand Prix of Sonoma.
After taking his first Verizon P1 Award of the season and a crucial bonus point, series leader Josef Newgarden and Team Penske go into the race as favourites, however in the Verizon IndyCar Series anything can happen.
Chip Ganassi Racing’s Scott Dixon heads into the race four points behind Newgarden.
For the Iceman to win the championship he has to finish ahead of Newgarden which is a tough ask as Dixon is starting from sixth place however if anyone can do it, it’s Scott Dixon who has been in this situation so many times before as he is aiming for his fifth championship.
Team Penske have all four of their cars starting the race from the front four positions however anything can happen.
