Following months of speculation, will they won’t they, British sports car manufacturer Aston Martin announced on Thursday that they will be returning to Formula One in 2016 after signing a partnership with Red Bull Racing.
The news will come as a surprise to the Sahara Force India Formula One team who it had been believed to have been in talks with Aston Martin over a link up however at the time Aston Martin rejected such an idea.
Thursday’s announcement in Melbourne will see the Aston Martin logo appear on the rear of the RB12’s sidepod’s and on the front wing starting with this weekend’s season opening Australian Grand Prix.
Aston Martin replace Infiniti who have joined Renault. The deal will also see Aston Martin and Red Bull collaborate on road car projects.
The news comes as a surprise as Mercedes Benz, own a 5% shareholding in Aston Martin.
