The Verizon IndyCar Series are back in action this weekend as the sport heads to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway for the IndyCar Grand Prix of Indianapolis on the road course, the precursor to the 102nd running of the Indianapolis 500 presented by PennGrade Motor Oil.

Team Penske’s Josef Newgarden, the defending Verizon IndyCar Series champion and current points leader goes into the race this weekend as the only driver to have won two races so far this season followings wins in Phoenix and last time out at Barber Motorsports Park.

Penske will have Helio Castroneves back for the month of May starting with the Grand Prix this weekend. The three time Indy 500 winner is driving the No.3 Pennzoil Chevrolet.

Dale Coyne Racing will announce who will drive the No.19 PaySafe Honda later this week following Pietro Fittipaldi’s accident at the Spa Francorhamps circuit in Belgium on Friday. The Brazilian who broke both his legs is expected back in the Verizon IndyCar Series cockpit later this summer.

Coyne is due to meet with officials from PaySafe today to decide who will drive the No.19 Honda.

The partner atmosphere began at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway on Saturday night with the Rev Indy event.
