The NTT INDYCAR SERIES is set for an extremely busy month of August with five races taking place in less than a month.
Here at Paddock Eye we thought we would take a look at who are the main title contenders as the 2024 championship heads towards its final lap.
Chip Ganassi Racing’s Alex Palou in the No.10 DHL Honda holds a 49 point lead over Team Penske’s Will Power.
Six-time NTT INDYCAR SERIES champion Scott Dixon in the No.9 PNC Bank Chip Ganassi Racing Honda is just 53 points behind Palou.
Colton Herta in the No.26 Gainbridge Honda is fourth, 57 points behind Palou.
Pato O’Ward is fifth for Arrow McLaren with Scott McLaughlin sixth just ahead of Kyle Kirkwood.
Defending Indianapolis 500 winner Josef Newgarden in the No.2 Hitachi Team Penske Chevrolet is realistically out of the championship battle as he is 145 points behind Palou however, with the final four of five races this year on ovals it is conceivable that Team Penske could win all of those races changing the complexion of the championship altogether.
Despite being a two-time series champion, Alex Palou has yet to take victory on an oval track.
It is going to be an interesting run in to the season-ending and potentially title deciding Big Machine Music City Grand Prix at Nashville Super Speedway on September 15.
