The Verizon IndyCar Series returns to Watkins Glen this weekend for what promises to be another exciting race in 2016 season.
The end of the year is rapidly approaching with the IndyCar Grand Prix at the glen this weekend and the GoPro Grand Prix of Sonoma in two weeks time so whatever happens in Watkins this weekend, we will have a showdown for the title in Sonoma.
Graham Rahal took victory in Texas at the week as seven weeks after it started the Firestone 600 was finally completed in dramatic fashion. Series points leader Simon Pagenaud finished Saturday night’s race in fourth place and heads to Watkins Glen with a 28 point over his nearest rival and team mate Will Power.
However Chip Ganassi Racing’s Tony Kanaan, Team Penske’s Helio Castroneves and Ed Carpenter Racing Josef Newgarden are all mathematically in with a chance of winning the championship.
Reigning series champion Scott Dixon who retired from the Firestone 600, Graham Rahal, James Hinchcliffe and Carlos Munoz are also all mathematically in with a chance of winning the championship. Rahal’s race win for Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing’s was only Honda’s second win of the season following Alexander Rossi’s Indianapolis 500 win such has been the dominance of Chevrolet and Team Penske.
