Chip Ganassi Racing’s Jimmie Johnson who completed his Rookie Orientation Programme on the Indianapolis Motor Speedway oval course on Wednesday says that there are still a number of factors that need to fall into place if he is to compete in the NTT IndyCar Series full-time in 2022.

Johnson confirmed that he could compete full-time in the NTT IndyCar Series in 2022 if Chip Ganassi Racing is able to source the sponsorship needed to run the car but he will also have to speak to his wife and kids about that possibility.

The prospect of Johnson running a full-time schedule in 2022 would not have any impact on Tony Kanaan’s programme with Johnson confirming recently that any situation where he would compete in oval events with Chip Ganassi would not impact TK. Speaking to Paddock Eye following his test at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway on Wednesday, Johnson commented saying:

Pretty close together. There was a marked increase in confidence, just knowing the lateral Gs that I was going to experience, understanding how fast things would be coming at me. My mind was prepared. Wherever your G meter is in your body, your butt, your head, whatever, all of those senses were much more in tune and straightaway I was ready to go.
