Seven time Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series champion Jimmie Johnson will make his NTT IndyCar Series race debut in the 2021 season opening Firestone Grand Prix of St Petersburg in exactly nine weeks time as he lines up alongside six time series champion Scott Dixon, Alex Palou and Marcus Ericsson.
Johnson may be an NTT IndyCar Series rookie in 2021 however that is just a label. The Californian joins a team with over 30 years of IndyCar Series experience and can draw on the experience of six time series champion Scott Dixon and his fellow No.48 Honda driver Tony Kanaan who is one of the most experienced drivers on the NTT IndyCar Series grid as Kanaan will compete in the oval races for Ganassi but will also attend races with the team.
Johnson also has four time NTT IndyCar Series champion and three time Indianapolis 500 winner Dario Franchitti as a driver coach for 2021.
Johnson not only has extremely experienced team mates but he will also have a great team around him, for example, Eric Cowdin is an extremely experienced race engineer and will have tremendous support in team Managing Director Mike Hull. Johnson joined Chip Ganassi Racing driver coach Dario Franchitti for a drive around the Firestone Grand Prix of St Petersburg as he spent time with his new team at the 2020 season ending Firestone Grand Prix of St Petersburg which plays host to the 2021 season opener in March.
