Former Formula One team owner turned BBC F1 pundit Eddie Jordan is set join Chris Evans and former Friends star and car nut Matt LeBlanc as a presenter of the new look Top Gear.
The Mirror newspaper in the UK has quoted a senior Top Gear source in saying that a contract with EJ is just a formality for the Irishman.
LeBlanc who played Joey on Friends was confirmed as a presenter on BBC’s Top Gear on Thursday alongside Evans. It was reported last month that Evans had been on the verge of quitting the show due to interference on the show by former BBC 2 controller Kim Shillinglaw.
Speaking about his appointment to the new Top Gear LeBlanc who holds the lap record as the star in the reasonably priced car commented by saying:
As a car nut and a massive fan of Top Gear, I’m honoured and excited to be a part of this iconic show’s new chapter. What a thrill!
LeBlanc’s signing is a major coup for the BBC as the American is a fan favourite among television audiences due to his time on Friends and also more recently on the Golden Globe winning TV series episodes.
Chris Evans spoke about his new colleague by saying:
Matt’s a lifelong fellow petrolhead and I’m thrilled he’s joining Top Gear. Acting out our craziest car notions on screen is a dream job and I know we’ll both be debating some epic road trip ideas.
Acting BBC Entertainment controller Alan Tyler commented on the former Friends stars appointment to the show by saying;
Matt is a class act and a brilliant signing for Top Gear. He is a self-confessed car fanatic with a passion for the programme. I’m really looking forward to watching Chris and Matt bring the all new show to our audiences.
The news of Eddie Jordan’s imminent appointment to the show means that the new look Top Gear which is due to return to TV screens in May has a line-up that is is more than a match for the former presenters of the show, Jermey Clarkeson, James May and Richard Hammond who have a new show on Amazon.
