Ed Carpenter Racing’s Josef Newgarden returns to Barber Motorsports Park this weekend as defending race winner having taken victory here last year for CFH Racing.
The race win was Newgarden’s first Verizon IndyCar Series victory and he heads to Barber following a strong performance last time out at the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach where he finished the race in 10th place after starting from ninth.
Last season, Newgarden led the Grand Prix of Alabama for a total of 46 of 90 laps and took the lead for the final time on lap 70 having lead the race on three separate occasions. The race marks the end of the four race special Fuzzy’s Ultra Premium Vodka livery for the No.21 Chevrolet.
Speaking ahead of this weekend’s race, Newgarden commented by saying:
Barber, I’m excited to get back there! We’ve had a couple of good top 10 finishes these last two races, now it would be nice if we could go there and get a little bit better than that. Finally getting back on the podium or getting a win would be nice leading into the Month of May! That’s our priority; we’ve got a fast car at Barber. We won there last year and we’re coming back with a great Fuzzy’s Vodka team. It’s also going to be the last race for the 100th Running Commemorative Bottle livery, so we’ll try to send it out with a bang!
