AJ Foyt Racing team president Larry Foyt says that JR Hildebrand who has joined the outfit for this weekend’s 105th running of the Indianapolis 500 presented by Gainbridge has been a super addition to the team. The Californian will start the race from 22nd place in the No.1 ABC Supply Chevrolet after setting a four lap average speed of 229.980MPH.

Speaking to Paddock Eye on Wednesday, Foyt said that JR is very technical and that he believes he is a dark horse for the race and they have been looking to work together for a number of years.

To win the Indy 500 everything has to go your way. Foyt said there is no added pressure this weekend and that the No.1 car is not getting any special treatment compared to the other two cars. Foyt said that he will be focused on Bourdais’ car as he is calling the strategy for the Frenchman and that the Indianapolis Motor Speedway always adds some stress but you get ready to do your job once all of the pre-race stuff is done.

Foyt said that Bourdais is great to work with and tough but they are excited for the first 500 together which will be great.

Speaking about Dalton Kellett, Foyt said that his feedback has been great and that the Canadian has made a big step this year and he has been impressed with how Kellett coped with the pressure of qualifying on Saturday.

Speaking about the 11 car the team tried everything, Charlie was great, his attitude was great but now we have to focus on the race, practice was great the cars look good. We are not starting where we want but the guys seem pretty happy with their cars.

Our guys, we weren’t super able to pull out and get by people so we are hoping to get a little bit extra but you don’t know what you have until the race start. The engineers will look at the data and work from there to get the best from the cars they can.
