Chip Ganassi Racing Team’s Tony Kanaan will extend a record this weekend as the new season kicks of with the Firestone Grand Prix of St Petersburg.
The Brazilian who drives the No.10 NTT Data Chevrolet will compete in his 250th consecutive Verizon IndyCar event, a record that dates back to Portland in 2001. Since than, Kanaan has won the championship with Andretti Green Racing.
In 2013, Kanaan won the Indianapolis 500 with KV Racing Technology. Kanaan joined his current team Chip Ganassi Racing ahead of the 2014 season replacing his former team mate and good friend Dario Franchitti after the Scot was forced to retire from racing at the end of the 2013 season.
Speaking ahead of the start of the 2016 Verizon IndyCar season, Kanaan commented by saying:
I couldn’t be more excited to get the season started this weekend in St. Petersburg. We’ve been testing a lot as a team in the offseason and have been able to pull together some solid data leading into this first race. The No. 10 NTT Data Chevrolet felt really quick in Phoenix at the open test and at our last test in Sebring, so the whole NTT Data Chip Ganassi Racing team is feeling confident heading into the season opener. I know the fans are just as ready as we are to get back into the racing season, so hopefully we can give them a good show at the Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg.
