Arrow McLaren SP announced on Tuesday that Taylor Kiel, the team’s Managing Director of Competition has been promoted to the newly created role of President of Arrow McLaren SP. In his new role, Kiel will oversee all aspects of the Arrow McLaren SP NTT IndyCar Series organisation including all competition and commercial aspects of the business.
Kiel, and Indianapolis native joined the organisation as a junior mechanic in 2007 when Sam Schmidt ran an Indy Lights team and stepped up to the NTT IndyCar Series with the team.
In 2020, following their partnership with McLaren Racing, Kiel guided the team to a top finish in the NTT IndyCar Series championship with Patricio O’Ward who is joined at the team in 2021 by former Chip Ganassi Racing driver Felix Rosenqvist. Arrow McLaren SP team co-owner Sam Schmidt commented on the announcement saying:
This is the next natural step for Taylor and for the evolution of the team.“I’ll never forget him showing up to the shop 14 years ago, without any tools, looking for a job in racing. He started pushing a broom and has excelled in every position from mechanic to Car Chief to IndyCar Team Manager and now President, learning and applying knowledge from some of the best in the industry. We are incredibly proud of the leader he has become.
Kiel who will stay on as strategist to Pato O’Ward in the No.5 Arrow McLaren SP Chevrolet commented on his new role saying:
I want to thank Sam and Ric for giving me the opportunity to lead this team at a higher level.. “Last year we showed our ability to grow and improve as a team, both competitively and commercially. This year we continue our journey towards becoming one of the top INDYCAR teams, on and off the track.
