AJ Foyt Racing will announce their driver line up for the 2020 NTT IndyCar Series season on Wednesday.
The question is who will partner Tony Kanaan in the No.4 Chevrolet?
It is well documented that AJ Foyt Racing have struggled in recent seasons and despite the loss of ABC Supply as a full time partner for this season the team have confirmed that they will continue to field two full time entries in 2020.
So who could it be? The Mayor of HinchTown has already ruled himself out of running as he says he wants to attempt other forms of racing such as LeMans and given his links with Honda, Foyt was not an option.
Paddock Eye understands that former Tony Kanaan’s former Chip Ganassi Racing team mate Charlie Kimball is the likely driver for the 2020 season making his full time return to the series.
In 2019, Kimball raced a partial schedule with Carlin Racing and announced recently he was working on securing a full time return to the NTT IndyCar Series for 2020 and has managed to secure extra backing that will allow him to run a full programme with Foyt.
If Foyt does in fact announce Kimball on Wednesday the team will have an extremely strong pairing in the Californian and Tony Kanaan.
Kimball and Kanaan know how each other race having been team mates at Chip Ganassi Racing, Kimball has previous experience with Chevrolet engines both during his time with Chip Ganassi Racing and also while racing for Carlin.
It would be a great move for all parties involved as it would ensure that AJ Foyt Racing have an experienced line up with a proven track record that would enable them to begin to work back towards challenging for wins and podiums which is where they should be.
