Kimi Raikkonen’s long time manager Steve Robertson has confirmed that retirement was from Formula One was never an option for the Iceman as the Finn just loves driving.
It was announced ahead of last weekend’s Singapore Grand Prix that Raikkonen who has driven for Ferrari for a total of eight seasons will leave the Italian outfit and return to the Alfa Romeo Sauber F1 Team on a two year contract from 2019 onwards.
Robertson said that Kimi had the initial talks with Sauber and then handed over to him so that the finer details of the deal could be finalized.
The Finn who returned to Ferrari in 2014 following two season with the Lotus F1 Team has a had a great season in 2018 starting the Italian Grand Prix from pole position which is the race ironically he was told that he would not be driving for Ferrari next season.
Due to his consistent results this season, Raikkonen finds himself in third place in the Drivers championship on 174 points as the F1 circus prepares for the Russian Grand Prix next weekend.
