Six-time series champion, Scott Dixon in the new-look No.9 PNC Bank Chip Ganassi Racing Honda was sixth with a time of 00:52.7314s just ahead of Colton Herta and Team Penske’s Scott McLaughlin.
Defending Indianapolis 500 winner Josef Newgarden was 9th just ahead of Sting Ray Robb who rounded out the top ten for AJ Foyt Racing with a time of 00:52.9030s just 0.3412s behind Kirkwood.
Christian Lundgaard was 11th for Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing just ahead of Augustin Canapino and Pietro Fittipaldi while Tom Blomqvist was 14th for Meyer Shak Racing while Jack Harvey who is being evaluated by Dale Coyne Racing rounded out the order in 15th place.
