NASCAR Cup Series star Kyle Larson says that it felt good to get some laps in during Wednesday’s track action at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, day 2 of practice for the 108th running of the Indianapolis 500 presented by Gainbridge next weekend.
The 2021 NASCAR champion is driving the No.17 HendrickCars.com Arrow McLaren Chevrolet ended the day in 15th place having completed 54 laps and speaking following the action he said:
“It felt good to get some laps in today. I felt really tight, and while it could be something that I’m just not used to, it feels like something we need to work on. I think once the balance gets better, we can time our runs a bit better. There’s still a lot for me to learn.”
Alexander Rossi in the No.7 VELO Arrow McLaren Chevrolet was fifth fastest with a speed of 227.484MPH and speaking following the action, the 2016 Indy 500 champion commented saying:
“Despite all the rain, it was a good day on the track. We got through a good chunk of our program, even though we would have liked a little bit more time. The car is in the window, and while it’s still early days, it’s certainly good to have that baseline to work from. We’ll keep after it tomorrow.”
Pato O’Ward in the No.5 Arrow McLaren Chevrolet was seventh having completed 70 laps with a fastest speed of 226.965MPH and speaking following the action, he said:
“The No. 5 Arrow McLaren Chevrolet feels good. I ended the day really happy with the car. Obviously, the rain hasn’t cooperated in a perfect manner these first couple days, but it’s just part of the process sometimes. I’m looking forward to tomorrow when we’ll get more running in; it looks like it’s going to be a beautiful day. With the rain in the forecast for Fast Friday, our focus tomorrow will probably be on getting our qualifying car setup in a good place.”
Callum Ilott in the No.6 NTT DATA Arrow McLaren Chevrolet ended the day in 21st place and speaking following his time in the car he commented saying:
“It was a pretty productive day, and it was nice to get some proper running in, as well. The car feels good; it’s very comfortable. We’ve been working hard and chipping away at it. There are a couple of clear things that we need to look at overnight, and hopefully we can sort that out for tomorrow, but I think overall, it’s not a bad start.”
Arrow McLaren Team Principal Gavin Ward said:
“It was a really solid first real day of running once the weather cleared up. It was good to see no major issues; we’re just working through the program across the board. It’s always fun to see a few teams out there try to chase a big tow and put big laps at the top of the pylon. However, we’re focused on ourselves here and happy with a very good start.”
