Defending NASCAR Cup Series champion Kyle Larson in the No.5 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 will start today’s penultimate race of the 2022 season at Martinsville Speedway from pole position and while he was eliminated from the championship playoffs, Hendrick Motorsports are still eligible for the owner’s championship with his car.
Speaking following qualifying, Larson said:
“I kind of backed it down the second lap. “I feel like a lot of times here slower is faster.“I was just trying to be smooth with it. I’m surprised that I did anything good here at Martinsville. It’s a good start so far, and hopefully we can keep it going tomorrow.
Chase Elliott in the No.9 NAPA Auto Parts Chevrolet gave Hendrick Motorsports a 1-2 front-row lockout with Chase Briscoe starting the race from third place.
