Mercedes AMG PETRONAS F1 Team Non Executive Chairman Niki Lauda says he was delighted with new signings Valtteri Bottas’ performance in the season opening Australian Grand Prix last weekend.
The Finn who started the race from third place on the grid finished the race on the podium in third place just behind team mate Lewis Hamilton.
Lauda believes that world champion Nico Rosberg wouldn’t have done any better had he continued racing.
Lauda confirmed that Bottas had not been told to hold station behind Lewis Hamilton in the closing stages of the race.
Speaking about Bottas’ performance, Lauda described it as ‘outstanding’.
The Austrian also praised the relationship between Valtteri Bottas and Lewis Hamilton and believes that the current harmony within the team will remain in place.
